Backpack Buddy Club is a non-profit organization set up to feed economically disadvantaged students over the weekend during the school months. We currently serve over 250 students at Bowie Elementary School. Over 600 more schools nation wide have began Backpack Buddies.

Teachers and administrators implement various programs to increase test scores and overall student achievement. While many of these endeavors prove beneficial, statistics show that achievement levels remains the same in many cases. As the numbers of economically disadvantaged students continue to increase, we are forced to dig a little deeper and observe a little closer by answering the following question: Does meeting a child’s physiological needs have a direct link to their success in academic achievement?

Backpack Buddies has been covered by ABC Nightline, ABC World News Tonight, ABC’s Persons of the Year, Wall Street Journal, ATPE Magazine, Education World, and the 700 Club.
